So reads the plaque in the garden at Equality Park that is dedicated to the late Allene Reynolds. On July 28th, 2009, around 30 people attended a dedication to Mrs. Reynolds sponsored by the Off-Broadway Neighborhood Association. OBNA president Jack McVicker and other attendees sang the praises of the well-loved Mrs. Reynolds Stories of hauling wagon loads of bottled water to the park garden and working at the annual clean-up despite a broken wrist illustrated her dedication to and love for the park. Mr. McVicker identified Allene as the moving force behind park enhancements.

He said the Association is also grateful to Community Policeman Jimmy Winters for his hours of volunteer service as well as the assistance of the Newport Police Department in their efforts to minimize noise and litter. McVicker told the gathering that future improvements include a City financed water fountain and a cleaning and painting of the fence with monies available from the Community Block Grant. A historic marker will also be placed in the park so that visitors can read the history of this shady little oasis on lower Broadway.
